We are so delighted to have Dr. Kathy Bullock coming to Vancouver from Berea Kentucky in August 2022! Kathy will be teaching at SongRoots Summer Camp and has agreed to come two days early to lead choir workshops! We all fell in love with Kathy over Zoom and can not wait to meet in person.

We will be learning some repertoire that we will carry forward throughout the term. Kathy will be providing us with background information on the music and teaching all parts. There will be an option to join in via Zoom for the whole workshop.

Dr. Kathy Bullock is a teacher, performer, conductor, arranger, and scholar who specializes in the area of African American Sacred Music.  A Professor Emerita of Music at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky where she taught for almost thirty years, she is also currently a Visiting Professor at Bennington College, Bennington, VT. Dr. Bullock earned the Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Theory from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and a B.A. in Music from Brandeis University, MA and has taught in a wide variety of musical areas. She continues to perform, conduct workshops, direct choirs, and teach courses in African American Music throughout the United States, Europe and Africa, sharing hope and joy during these challenging times.

Where: Shaughnessy Heights United Church (1550 West 33rd Ave)

Covid Safety: This workshop will require that singers wear masks. Kathy and Karla will be heading off two days later to teach at SongRoots camp and we’re really trying to ensure a healthy and safe camp for all. Kathy will not have to mask.
